MENCIPTAKAN SIHIR PADA KNALPOT RACING

Ketika timing camshaft dan periode overlapping meningkat maka kebutuhan akan dimensi leher knalpot yang lebih spesifik menjadi suatu kebutuhan. Cam durasi tinggi akan menyebabkan beberapa hal yang tidak diharapkan pada RPM tertentu, dan desain knalpot yang tepat akan meminimalisir masalah ini. Kita tentu menginginkan exhaust bekerja harmonis dengan noken as, terutama pada kecepatan mesin tinggi, untuk memaksimalkan pelepasan gas buang dari silinder.

Berarti bukan hanya kita harus menghubungkan bibir knalpot memiliki sudut yang pas terhadap porting exhaust, tetapi juga kita harus pandai menentukan diameter dan panjang dengan pas. Tentu saja tempat terbaik untuk melakukan eksperimentasi ini adalah dengan menaikkan motor pada mesin Dynotest. Bagaimanapun juga, ada kemungkinan untuk menghasilkan knalpot sesuai harapan kita jika kita memahami prinsip ‘exhaust tuning’ dan aturan-aturan dasar tentang knalpot ber-performa tinggi.

Ukuran diameter pipa akan membantu kecepatan gas buang melalui knalpot. Diameter pipa yang besar, relative terhadap ukuran silinder, akan menurunkan gas velocity. Karena sebuah mesin akan menciptakan pincak torsi pada kecepatan gas sekitar 75 meter/second maka header pipa knalpot akan mempengaruhi pada RPM berapa puncak torsi akan berada. Jadi pipa knalpot yang lebih besar akan menggeser puncak torsi yang diproduksi mendekati limiter.

Merubah panjang knalpot akan membantu meningkatkan kurva tenaga mesin di sekitar titik torsi maksimum. Menambah panjang pipa knalpot akan meningkatkan area RPM bawah ke- tengah, dan tenaga puncak pada RPM maximum akan terkuras. Pipa yang pendek akan member high-speed power, dengan kompensasi mengurangi tenaga menengah.

Dengan beberapa faktor ini didalam pikiran kita, maka akan menjadi awal penting sebelum memasuki perhitungan. Berikut adalah rumus untuk menentukan panjang pipa knalpot :

L = ( 850 x ET ) / MAX RPM – 3

L = panjang pipa knalpot yang akan dibuat
ET = Exhaust Timing, kapan klep buang mulai membuka sebelum TMB
MAX RPM = RPM yang dimau untuk mendapatkan puncak tenaga
Contoh :
Jupiter balap saya timing exhaust mulai membuka 80 derajat sebelum TMB , maka perhitungannya adalah
L = ( 850 x 260 ) / 10,000 – 3
L = 19.1 inches = 485 mm

Kemudian kita akan mementukan diameter pipa knalpot yang dibutuhkan =
D = sqrt ( CC / ((L + 3) x 25) ) x 2.1

D adalah diameter pipa yang diinginkan
CC adalah kapasitas silinder
L adalah panjang knalpot
Maka diameter pipa knalpot untuk Jupiter saya adalah :
D = sqrt ( 171 / ((19.1 + 3 ) x 25) ) x 2.1
D = 29 mm
Gampang toh…

Jadi knalpot yang saya butuhkan untuk Jupiter dengan kapasitas 170 cc dan durasi noken as 310 derajat adalah panjang 48,5 cm dengan diameter dalam pipa 2,9 cm agar mesin memproduksi tenaga di 10,000 RPM. Kalo baca bukunya Pakdhe Graham Bell yang bukan bel klakson itu, halah, berarti kita sudah sampe chapter 9 yang ngebahas mengenai exhaust system, alias sistem gas buang. Lha bab 1,2,3 nya kemana…? hehehe… sabar my friends… kan kita masih bertemu bertahun-tahun ke depan. Amin amin…

Dalam kasus knalpot racing, hati-hati, penampilan bisa menipu, dan membawa kita jauh dari POWER! Yang ada motor emang malah jadi keren tapi larinya gak seberapa kencang -alias gak sepiro’o banter- hehehe…

Mungkin saja suatu knalpot bisa secara kasat mata kueren abis, dibuat dari bahan stainless stell, atau dilapis krom yang ampe bisa dibuat ngaca, bentuk lekukannya indah bin bahenol, tapi apapun itu knalpot adalah tetap bongkahan pipa yang menyalurkan gas panas dari silinder. Gimana balap mau murah, lu knalpot aja beli yang mahalan, hehehehe…

Yup! Seperti komponen lainnya pada mesin balap, knalpot tidak bisa dianggap sebagai suatu part yang berdiri sendiri. Ingat knalpot adalah sistem pembuangan, namanya suatu sistem pasti terhubung, dipengaruhi, serta mempengaruhi area-area lainnya, jadi pemahaman kita harus dimulai, knalpot adalah suatu bagian atas keseluruhan mesin.

Tujuan knalpot adalah membuang semua gas sisa pembakaran di dalam silinder. Pada mesin motor drag ,knalpot diseting sedemikian hingga momentum gas sisa pembakaran dan gelombang tekanan membantu menyeruput gas bersih di intake porting masuk ke dalam silinder, mateb gak tuh! Sehingga efisiensi volumetrik meningkat, opo maneh iku efisiensi volumetrik, hehehhehehe… Bahkan bisa mencapai diatas 100 %. Proses overlaping yang lebar pada noken as racing dan kekuatan langkah hisap memungkinkan semua ini terjadi.

Jadi apa yang mempengaruhi dan dipengaruhi knalpot : Kapasitas silinder, durasi noken as, porting. Hmmm…

INERTIA TUNING

Tidak ada sihir dalam membuat mesin balap,pengukuran yang teliti, perhitungan yang tepat dan sentuhan tangan dalam men-setting mesin adalah suatu hal yang mutlak.

Disadari atau tidak, gas sisa pembakaran memiliki bobot, jadi sekali kita membuat gas bergulir maka ini akan berlanjut bahkan hingga setelah klep buang menutup. Ketika kecepatan bertambah, waktu untuk mesin membuang gas sisa pembakaran akan semakin singkat, disini dibutuhkan aksi hisapan dari knalpot untuk membantu mengosongkan silinder dengan cepat.

ACOUSTICAL TUNING

Gas buang bergerak dengan pulsa tertentu, bukan im3 seperti no saya, dan kalo kehabisan gak tau isi ulang dimana tu pulsa gas buang hehehe… Hush! Bentuk dasar leher knalpot-lah yang menyebabkan munculnya inersia gas buang, sekarang kita harus bisa menentukan panjang pipa serta diameter dalam pipa. Ini adalah point penting dimana akustikal tuning -tuning tu bahasa jowone opo to- berperan. Exhaust gas dimuntahkan dari mesin tuh dengan kecepatan sekitar 100 meter per detik (kok gak ditilang polisi yo banter2 ngunu) hehehehe… tapi gelombang di dalam pipa knalpot mampu menyebabkan kecepatan bertamabah hingga 500 m/s. Nah disinilah poin desain knalpot bagaimana meningkatkan kemampuan cylinder scavenging dan meningkatkan cylinder filling dengan campuran bahan bakar+udara segar.

Setelah busi meledakkan bahan bakar, tak lama kemudian terjadi langkah usaha, namun ditengah enaknya langkah usaha, klep buang mulai terangkat dan buussszzz gas terhisap menuju sistem pembuangan, terciptalah gelombang tekanan yang bergulung dengan kecepatan tinggi menuju ujung pipa. Setelah gas terbuang di atmosfer, gelombang positif berbalik dan menciptakan tekanan negatif -hisapan- yang mundur melalui knalpot masuk ke dalam silinder. Coba dengerin motor balap yang punya kompresi tinggi dan durasi noken as tinggi, akustikal tuning-nya semakin jelas, knalpot bunyinya rock n roll banget, Dang dang dang dang dang!!! Patah-patah kan bunyinya, telmi, alias gak nyambung… mirip suara senapan mesin begitu hehehehe…
